Importing historical data via Rest API

Are there any limitations on importing historical data into Sherlock via the Rest API? All of the calls include a 'timestamp' field, so it seems like it should be possible, but is it really the case? And is there any value in recording historical values for user and account/group traits, or just events? Thanks!
